WEEK OF 10/14/19

Salad Bar- the kitchen will be starting the salad bar for the first time ever this week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

School photos are in - come pick them up in the front office.

Model UN - first meeting, Monday 10/14 in Ms. Silva's room.

Falcon Club- Earn community service hours helping out in the lower parking lot on Saturday (10/19) or Sunday (10/20) for 3-4 hrs. Sign up in the College and Career Center to volunteer with the Goodwill Donation Drive.

Falcon's Volleyball Senior Night is 10/15 against Aptos. Wear pink and come support the seniors.  Freshman game at 3:30, JV at 5 and Varsity at 6:30.

Girls Soccer - there will be a meeting Thursday, at 12:45 in the gym concerning the upcoming season.

College Visits this week- Point Loma @ 9am Tuesday, Binghamton @ 8am Thursday, and CSU Monterey Bay @12pm Friday.

WEEK OF 10/7/19
  • PSAT - Saturday, 10/19 at SVHS. Sign ups are first come, first served Sept 16-Oct 11.  $25 cash or check (to SVHS) to the front office 7:15am-3:15pm.
  • College Visits Friday, Oct 11th: University of Puget Sound 8am and California State Univeristy Monterey Bay 9am.
  • Homecoming Week Theme Days: 'Merica Monday, Tourist Tuesday, Workout Wednesday, Too Cray Thursday, Flashback Friday. Yearbook will be taking pictures on the grassy knoll everyday this week at lunch.
  • Club Booth at Homecoming Carnival - if you want to have a club booth at the carnival this Friday, to the the meeting at break in Ms. Fisher's room.
  • Haunted House Booth Requests - be sure to turn request in to Mr. Wyner.
  • Fashion Club First Meeting is this Friday at lunch in Ms Kirkhams's room.
  • IB students - don't forget that Friday is the deadline to register for IB exams.

WEEK OF 9/30/19
  • French Club - first meeting in the French room C402, Monday September 30.
  • Mock Trial - sign up for Mock Trial, sheet on Mr. Labrie's door
  • Cooking Club- meeting in Ms. Spitzers room, Friday at lunch.  Theme is Random- bring food, eat and have fun.  Contact Christina Culp for more information.
  • Green Team- Interested in marketing and business while also protecting the environment?  Stop by Mr. Andrews room Thursday at lunch to learn about our organic week killer selling day this weekend.
  • Airforce and Army will be in the quad at lunch on Thursday.
  • Harvey Mudd University will be here Friday at 1pm. Next week Michigan State University, Western Washington University and University of Puget Sound and CSU Monterey Bay.  Sign up on Naviance or with Amy Paul in the college and career center.
  • Bike to School Day reminder- Oct 3rd.
  • Homecoming Dance theme is the Roaring Twenties.  Show off your white, silver and gold and buy a ticket!  Tickets will be sold at break and lunch Thursday and Friday this week and lunch next week.  Tickets are $3 without ASB and $1 with ASB; $5 at the door.
  • Boba Fundraiser at Sushi Blossom by the middle school. You get $1 off when you say you are from SVHS.
  • Model United Nations first meeting is on Monday, October 7th.

  • Homecoming is next week!!!

    • The Homecoming Rally and Football game are on Friday

    • The Homecoming Dance is on Saturday the 12th, the theme is “Roaring 20’s”

  • Community Service Event: Saturday the 12th for Homecoming cleanup and setup for dance

    • Starts at 10:00 AM, anyone can get community service

  • Homecoming Carnival Booth Meeting next week, day TBA,  pay attention to daily announcements

  • IMPORTANT: The Good Baked Goods Club is meeting on FRIDAYS at lunch for the duration of the Haunted House season in Mrs. Kirkham’s room C703.

  • For Seniors:  Homecoming Court voting form link is on the Student Gov. page of school website, under the “Clubs/Arts” tab, link says Homecoming Court Ballot, only vote for 5 girls and 5 boys.

WEEK of 9/23/19
  • Haunted House - last day to register as an actor is on Tuesday. Go to svhaunt.org/register to sign up. The first general meeting for all actors will be on Thursday at lunch in the Student Union.
  • Interested in a trip to Peru, June 2020? Parent Informational Meeting on Tuesday, 9/24 at 7pm in room 601. Parents and Students welcome.

  • Bike to School Day in Santa Cruz County is next Thursday, Oct 3.  Students who bike or walk to school will be treated to refreshments and entered into a raffle from SV Bike Shop.

  • Today there is a home Girl’s Volleyball game against SLV - Freshman 4pm, JV 5pm, Varsity 6p

  • The Mock Trial Club is having an informational meeting today at lunch in Mr. Labrie’s room M6

  • The first general meeting for Haunted House is today at lunch in the student union! Make sure to attend if you are a registered actor!

  • Freshman Class Homecoming float meeting tomorrow at lunch in C703 

  • The Interact Club is meeting at lunch tomorrow 9/27 in Mrs. Near’s room

  • Fundraiser on Saturday at the Chipotle on River Street from 4-8 pm, the proceeds will go to: Homecoming dance, Senior trip, senior picnic, graduation & all things prom! Say you are from Scotts Valley, or show them the flyer, either digital or paper. Let Ellie Lima know if you need a screenshot of the digital flyer or a paper flyer!

  • Home football game against Monterey this Saturday 9/28

  • The Sophomore Class is having a bake sale at SV Market this Sunday 9/29

  • Next Monday a representative from Gravity Water an organization that helps developing communities get safe drinking water, will be presenting in K-Street during 2nd and 3rd Period. If you would like to attend, please let Mrs. Kirkham know, via email or in person.

  • Next Monday 9/30 there will be free apples and honey in the Student Store celebrating Rosh Hashanah

  • The Senior Class is having a boba fundraiser at the Sushi Blossom restaurant everyday next week starting 9/30. Sushi Blossom is located on Camp Evers Lane on the south end of town, Boba will be cheaper than usual

  • Cooking Club meets next Friday 10/4  at lunch in Mrs. Spitzer’s

  • The new Intellectuals Club meets every Monday at lunch in room C703

  • Today we are nominating Homecoming Court Candidates. Each person can nominate up to five boys AND five girls up using the ballots provided to all Seniors.

WEEK OF 9/16/19
  • Garden Monday at lunch - join us in the raised bed garden, sowing flower and vegetable seeds.
  • Environmental Awareness Assembly Monday - by class, periods 2-5.
  • PSAT Registration - The PSAT will be on Saturday, October 19th at 7:45am at SVHS. Sophomores and Juniors can register on a first-come, first served basis from Sept 16-Oct 11.  To sign up bring $25.00 cash or check (made out to SVHS) to Leigh Jones in the front office between 7:15am and 3:15pm.  Sorry, no refunds given in the case of cancellation.
  • Travel to Spain- Parent and student information meeting Thursday, Sept 18th at 6pm.  Find out more about the linguistic and cultural immersion trip to Madrid and Barcelona.
  • Haunted House Make Up Auditions are Wed, Sept 18th after school. Register at svhaunt.org/register BEFORE the audition.

  • Fall play "The Bold, The Young and the Murdered" auditions are Monday, Sept 23rd.  Please prepare a one-minute comedic monologue.  Sign up for an audition spot in the drama room E201 at lunch after school. Questions go to Miss Kannegaard.
  • The Community Service Faire is on Thursday, 9/19

  • The Club Faire is on Friday, 9/20; talk to Christina Culp by the end of Thursday to get a table.

  • Attention all Juniors and Seniors! CSF applications are now available in the front office. Please pick up and fill out your application based on last semester’s grades. Contact Jordan O’Brien at (831) 706-6534 or Ms. De Castro if you have any questions. These are due on October 16th.
  • If you would like to participate in the freshman class Lip Sync OR help with the float decorations, please come to Mr. Walker’s room in C703 room TODAY, 9/19 to sign up. We need your help to make this homecoming a great event! Please understand that you are not required to help just because you come to the meeting.

  • Picture Make Up Day is Tuesday, Sept 10th during break, tutorial and lunch. Look for white tent next to the gym.
  • Rumble in the Jungle - Girls Volleyball has their first league game against Santa Cruz Tuesday, 9/10 - JV at 5pm and Varsity at 6:30pm. Show your support by dressing in your best jungle attire.
  • GSA is having their first club meeting Sept 9th and then every Monday at lunch in MS. Carey's room, M12. Contact Raven V for more information.

  • Haunted House auditions start next week! Thriller Dancers are on Wednesday 9/11 and Tour Guides are on Thursday 9/12. If you plan to tryout, make sure to register at svhaunt.org/register before the audition date.

  • Teachers who have Freshman are conducting the Freshman Class Officer elections using the Google Form link on the Student Government page.
